Relationship intelligence tools map who knows whom. Contact discovery grows the marketing database. How they differ, and why approval changes the picture.
Relationship intelligence tools analyze email and calendar activity to show which employees know which people at which accounts, often with a relationship strength score. They are usually aimed at sales, to find a warm introduction into a target account.
Contact discovery has a different job: growing the marketing database with real, current business contacts the company already has, so campaigns reach warm audiences.
The key question for any tool reading employee mailboxes is who sees what, and when. If a contact becomes visible to others the moment it is detected, the employee has lost control of their own relationships. If it stays private until the employee releases it, the employee remains the one deciding, the way they do when they forward an email.
RelationLens is employee approved contact discovery. It finds contacts every night, keeps each one visible to exactly one person until that person releases it, and delivers released contacts to HubSpot, onward to Salesforce through an existing sync, or as a spreadsheet in your own column format. Marketing still gets a view of the account landscape through its Summary dashboard, including which accounts the relationships concentrate in.
