How Does InferTrust™ Deploy on Industrial Edge Devices and PLCs?

Technical details on how InferTrust™ operates on industrial edge devices, PLCs, and MES components in manufacturing environments.

Purpose-Built for Industrial Edge Computing

Manufacturing AI often runs on resource-constrained industrial hardware: PLCs, industrial PCs, edge gateways, and MES components. InferTrust™ (Patent Pending) Industrial was engineered to operate within these constraints while maintaining full cryptographic decision integrity.

Lightweight Footprint

The InferTrust™ edge agent is designed for minimal resource consumption. Cryptographic operations are optimized for industrial processors, and the agent can operate within the memory and storage constraints of typical industrial edge devices. The signing operation adds minimal latency to the inference pipeline, ensuring that decision integrity does not impact production cycle times.

Hardware Security Integration

On devices equipped with hardware security modules (HSMs) or Trusted Platform Modules (TPMs), InferTrust™ uses hardware-backed key storage for device-bound signing. On devices without dedicated security hardware, InferTrust™ implements software-based key protection with appropriate security controls. The level of hardware security available is recorded in the decision record metadata, providing transparency about the security properties of each deployment.

Offline and Air-Gapped Operation

Many manufacturing environments operate in network-constrained or air-gapped configurations. InferTrust™ signs and seals decision records locally on the edge device before any network transmission. Records can be batched and transmitted when connectivity is available, or extracted via secure physical media in fully air-gapped environments. Decision integrity is maintained regardless of network availability.

Protocol Support

InferTrust™ Industrial supports standard industrial protocols including OPC UA, MQTT, and REST APIs for integration with SCADA systems, historians, and MES platforms.
